Mark Foley Funnies

You just had to know that Jay leno, David Letterman, Conan O'Brien, Jon Stewart and other late night comics would make a number of jokes out of the Mark Foley incident. The opportunity is just too great. Next to the Monica Lewinsky siituation with Bill Clinton a few years ago, this is one of the most outrageous incidents in a while involving a politician on recent years. For the late night comics, news like the foley incident is like receiving a big gift on your front door. For the late night comics, they must feel kids on Christmas morning opening a big gift.

As the sex abuse crisis with the Catholic Church and Michael Jackson fade back into the pages of history, Mark Filey foolishly provided a new reason to doubt in institutions such as Congress and raised awful new doubts about this already debased institution.

You can't help but accept that late night comics see such a event as an important new incident to joke about about. And you know that your reputation is over when you become a late night joke. Whether the jokes continue all week will be an important indicator of just how serious this event really is.

Well, I used to do a little stand-up comedy during shows I did, so here's a royalty free joke for anyone to use as they see fit: Many of the voters in Mark Foley's district used to say he was a very devout Catholic. Now they must think that he's nearly a priest.

It's very sad to let down by the people we are supposed to respect once again. Jokes help us deal with the pain and anger that we feel.
