Weekend Violence Claims 10 American Lives, As Radical Cleric Muqtada al-Sadr Calls For Attacks On Americans

This Easter weekend was another bloody one in Iraq, with no sign at all that the new security measures are working at all. 10 Americans lost their lives, while radical Shiite cleric, Muqtada al-Sadr urges his 50,000 armed Madhi militia followers to step up attacks on Americans. Today is the fourth anniversary of the fall of Saddam Hussein's government, and it has been meant by massive antiAmerican demonstrations.

Supporters of the Bush policy in Iraq such as Senator John McCain who only last week had claimed substantial improvements in security in Iraq had no comment on all of this depressing news that the new security measures appear to be failing, violence wotrsening, and antiAmerican sentiments just continue to grow.

The U.S. would like to stabilize the situation in Iraq. However, the situation just simply seems to grow out of control, and even with a surge of U.S. forces to over 135,000, nothing seems to be working. Iraq appears to be a huge failure with little the U.S. can do to control the deeping problems which could even blow into a future regional war with Iran and Saudi Arabia backing the rival Shiite and Sunni sectarian combatants in this worsening civil war.
