Westinghouse With $5 Billion Federal Loan Guarantee May Build Up Chinese Nuclear Reactors

An incredible recent fact has emerged. The Chinese nuclear development agency, The China National Nuclear Corporation, CNNC may be given a $5 billion dollar loan guarantee by the American Federal Government if Westinghouse is given a bid to build four new nuclear reactors in China. And the biggest shock in this is that the CNNC has had a long history of export of nuclear weapons technology to both Pakistan and Iran according to the CIA,

The CNNC has been involved in seling 5,000 ring magnets to Pakistan's A.Q. Khan Research Laboratory, which are used to build special high speed centrifuges to enrich uranium for nuclear weapons. And the CNNC also was involved in the sale of special furnaces as well to Pakistan, to also be used in nuclear weapons production. With a huge oil deal with Iran, China has continued to offer aid with nuclear technology that could be used for uranium enrichment and nuclear weapons production by Iran. Yet the American Federal government will probably aid the CNNC to use Westinghouse to build four new reactors in China. Westinghouse is partially foreign owned, and is a large political donor.

While 32% of Chinese live on only about $2 a day, China spends about $90 billion a year on it's military budget, the third highest in the world. And despite long CIA evidence that the CNNC is providing both the People's Liberation Army with nuclear weapons technology, as well as exporting that technology to both Pakistan and Iran, once again the Bush Administration is sacrificing American security to a large corporate donor, Westinghouse, which is owned by CBS Corporation, and whose Michael H. Jordan was a large political contributor. Jordan has long opposed any Democratic control of Congress complaining it may increase "super regulatory zeal". But limiting the world proliferation of nuclear weapons seems like a reasonable regulatory goal to me. And the Westinghouse possible nuclear bid to build nuclear reactors in China with cooperation of the CNNC with it's history of nuclear enrichment equipment trade to Pakistan and Iran makes this another example of the Bush Administration sacrificing America's security to a large corporate friend. The world is clearly less safe with more and more nuclear technology transfers, or a nuclear armed Iran.
